Agreements, minutes, financial statements, correspondence, news clippings, and memorabilia, reflecting Smith's studies at Knox College (ca. 1915), his early career as a chemistry teacher and his activities during World War I, his career with Kingsport Press (1944-1960), and community activities in Kingsport, Tenn. Most of the papers were created by Mr. Smith and his interaction with his business associates. Some materials concerning his wife and children are also included. Collection dates from 1842-1976. Bulk of the material is dated 1915-1929 and 1944-1960.
